What does the state of journalism look like today, in an era wherein countless fake news articles pour out each day, necessitating fact-checking as an essential part of accessing information? The Anchor is a play inspired by the novel The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum by the Nobel Laureate Heinrich Böll. One day, the main anchor of a giant media outlet reads an article that says that his colleague reporter has been murdered. With his potent influence, the anchor determines that this story is exclusive-worthy material and wantonly reports the descriptions of the suspect, K. The news story increasingly loses its objectivity, turning K into the perfect culprit as no one tries to restrain the reports. Although the anchor comes to learn the truth behind the case through an interview with K, the witch hunt continues, as it has already spiraled out of control. Seo Jeong Wan focuses on the problems that occur from the powerful press in order to explore the role of journalism in Korean society.
