In this seminar led by critic Sun Young Lee, the participants discussed ways of reading an artist’s work and also looked at what entails critical writing. The workshop delved into the attitude and perspective taken by Lee, an established critic in the Korean art world, in her approach to and understanding of the artists’ work in her writing. It was an opportunity through which to hear about her experiences of observing an artist over a long period of time and how such writing affected the artists. Lee presented practical advices on the critical writing on the exhibition that’s being co-organized by the three curators in January 2020, and also gave suggestions on the roles demanded of the artist and curator in between the audience and the exhibition, and areas of actual exhibition composition that must be focused.
