Since when did we begin to ‘shave’ this particular area? Could I pull off wearing a sleeveless tee without shaving? (armpit)Hair asks humorous but provocative questions about the unspoken social pressure to shave. Nana, who works for an online fashion apparel store, does not shave her armpits. She wears long sleeves through the summer to cover it up, but it’s getting tougher and tougher to hide. Some of her colleagues whisper about her hair, but Nana cannot say anything. She confesses her troubles to her friend Mia, but there’s no way to solve the issue. Then one day, she meets Harry, a friend who understands it all. Through this work, Youri Kim considers what it means to be true to oneself in the idst of countless social conventions.
Kim is a playwright and director in charge of the one-person drama troupe ‘Project.e.nyeon.’ Her work to date has explored the inequalities that immigrants, refugees, women, and others face in capitalist society, asking fundamental questions about humanity.
