Hannam District 3 takes as its backdrop what is now Bogwang-dong, a neighborhood in Seoul set to be demolished for redevelopment, and tells the stories of people who will continue to live there until it disappears. For the work’s protagonist ‘I,’ Bogwang-dong, otherwise called Hannam District 3, is a shelter and sanctuary. This place, a precious hideout and resting place for someone, is preparing to be wiped out under a great looming plan. ‘I’ wrestle day to day to survive in Bogwang-dong. Project_From here to there communicates this story based on local research and interviews with artists, children, foreigners, and others who actually reside in Bogwang-dong. Hannam District 3 showcases a mixture of reality and fiction by making the actual space of Bogwang-dong exist within the space of the theater.
Project_From here to there is a creative collective with Seonhee Nam at its center that explores lives that are always on the move toward some other place. The collective’s work leverages personal and individual histories to take a closer view of Korean society at large.
