Principle
DOOSAN Humanities Theater 2026: New Taxonomy
May.27.2026 ~ Jun.14.2026Space111Principle is a play by Kwok Wing Hong(郭永康), premiered at Hong Kong Repertory Black Box in 2017, and was won for Outstanding Production of the Year at the 28th Hong Kong Drama Awards. When the new principal joins a high school, she enforces a series of new rules to establish her authority, angering both teachers and students. The power struggle deepens between her, focused on procedure and rule, and the vice-principal, who advocates for a whole-rounded education.
The story is set in a high school, a microcosm of society. This thought-provoking piece of theater confronts the clash between established values and the vision of the youth, raising questions about education, justice, and principle. Just as the characters interpret the same situation through differing ‘principles,’ the audience is invited to look back at accustomed systems and boundaries and consider a new principle for their community.
