GOKUDO MESHI tells the tale of inmates with various criminal records, from gambling to assault and murder. As the inmates trudge through each day cut off from society, they begin to share their history through their recollection of their favorite food. As the inmates remember the familiar and humble food they used to enjoy before their incarceration, they begin to associate meaning beyond the gastronomic experience. While such food may seem far too ordinary and quotidian to some, the stories contained within each dish allows the audience to discover the “ultimate taste” of our lives. Adapted by the playwright awardees of DOOSAN Art LAB 2020 Hwang Jeong-eun, Jin Ju, and Choi Boyoung, the play is directed by Shin Yoo-cheong, the winner of Best Director for the 56th Dong-A Theater Award for her work Nokcheon Has Fields of Shit
