Apr.14.2015 ~ May.16.2015Space111The play Chimerica is an exploration of the fastchanging and complex relationship between the East and the West throughout the span of approximately 20 years from 1989. Since its premier in 2013, this theatrical work has drawn widespread attention by winning several awards including Evening Standard Theatre Awards, Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards, and Laurence Olivier Awards. The title draws from the term ‘Chimerica’, a portmanteau formed from China and America, whose predominance in the global economy and mutual interdependence are the main themes presented in this play. Based on the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, the storyline uses the perspective of a fictional photojournalist to discuss the issue of human rights and the media in China, and the change in the Sino-American relationship in the context of world history. This play is directed by Choi, Yong hun of the Theater Group ZakEunShinHwa.
