DreamPlay These21’s play K-Men’s Rhapsody premiered at Sundol Theater as part of the ‘Standing at Sundol’ series in 2022. Taking an in-depth look at the identity of Korean men through historical scenes, from the Japanese Occupation era to the present, the play proves that the so-called “masculinity”instilled in Korean men from birth is no more than a self-deprecating portrait drawn by Korea’s modern history and residues of history passed down through generations. This production is both a humorous introspection of the past and present of “Korean men” and a reexamination of the history of Korean women who have been pushed to the periphery due to the patriarchal
bias present throughout history.
