Haisui no Koto

Jun.10.2014 ~ Jul.05.2014Space111

The final work of the 2014 Doosan Humanities Theater Series, The Age of Distrust, addresses the 3.11 Great East Japan Earthquake and the ensuing nuclear power plant catastrophe. The play became the talk of the Japanese theater field upon its debut in 2011 as it was written and directed by Akihito Nakatsuru, director of the theater company TRASHMASTERS. In original play named Isolated Island of Drainage, “drainage” is a word from Chinese history books where “if anything, in a desperately dangerous situation, one leans against the river and fights with all of one’s might,” which is likened to the present situation in Japan. The play poses fundamental questions as to whether societal justice can exist in extreme crises beyond the context of Japanese society, such as an environment apocalypse. Directing this work is Kim Jae-yeop, recipient of the best art award and the best play award at the 2013 Donga Theater Awards, and Yeo Sin-dong, supported by the Doosan Art Center Artist Incubating Program, participates as art director
