In the original short story “The Other,” 20-year-old Borges and 70-year-old Borges meet across time and space, sitting down to converse on a bench. The two do not recognize each other at first, but eventually come to realize that they are the same person. Faced with a stranger that is “yourself,” can you accept the other “you?” The Impact of a Creative Process Based on Social Adolescence on the Creative Process of a Puppet Maker: Centered on Jorge Luis Borges’ “The Other” borrows the lens of adolescents to explore the generation of adults who have passed socially-defined puberty, but still struggle with uncertainty and incompleteness. The production consists of three short plays.
Jihyeong Lee reflects on the uses of Puppets, starting from the limitations that a Puppets maker faces. The artist deviates from the actor-centered approach, exploring new ways of using Puppets to express each character’s language. In Lee’s productions, Puppets and objects appear as characters along with human actors.
