This play was inspired by the controversy over the alleged forgery of artist Chun Kyungja’s painting called Beautiful Woman, contested between Chun and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea(MMCA). Highlighting the fact that the controversy is still in progress, the play begins the story in 1991, in the 2nd Curatorial Department of the MMCA branch in Gwacheon. The new curator Yena brings success to the gallery’s business by exhibiting Beautiful Woman. However, Chun disavows the painting on the exhibit as a fake. Yena does everything she can to transform the fake into an authentic painting. The play portrays society’s corrupt affinity to power, and raises questions on the standards for determining whether something is “Real” or “Fake”.
